Doctor Ruby Walker arrives in India looking for a job and a distraction from her heartbreak. She anticipates the sunshine and picture-perfect beaches, but not the realities of work at an under-resourced hospital.

Un homme entièrement nu et souffrant d'amnésie a été repêché en mer et amené au Good Karma Hospital. Lydia finit par découvrir son identité et son secret et, avec l'aide de Ruby, parvient à lui faire affronter la réalité. Ruby, par ailleurs, visite l'école d'un village situé à proximité de l'hôpital. Elle y fait la connaissance d'Anton Karkik, l'instituteur, qui se montre rapidement entreprenant à son égard...
